Spokesman Joins Lockyer Campaign Team

SACRAMENTO – The campaign to reelect Bill Lockyer State Treasurer today announced Tom Dresslar will be its spokesman.

“Common sense, uncommon achievement – that defines Bill Lockyer. And it defines, more than anything, what Californians desperately need at this point in our state’s history,” said Dresslar. “Throughout his public service, Lockyer has made government work better for people. In the process, he has built an unsurpassed record of accomplishment.

“As Treasurer, Lockyer has fought Wall Street to reduce how much it costs taxpayers to build roads, schools, levees and other vital public works. He pioneered a new way to sell bonds to individual investors, saving taxpayers more money while helping create the tens of thousands of jobs that come with infrastructure projects. He’s been a consistent, vocal truth-teller on State budget issues, fighting accounting gimmicks and magic tricks. He has urged policymakers to stop careening from one fiscal crisis to the next, and chart a smarter, steadier course for California and its taxpayers. And he’s led the fight to rid public pension funds of corruption.

“As Attorney General, Lockyer built the state’s DNA labs into the nation’s best crime-solving weapon. He got the Megan’s Law web site to track sex offenders up and running six months ahead of schedule – and under budget. He recovered billions of dollars for ripped off energy ratepayers, and hundreds of millions more for taxpayers bilked by drug companies and others who defrauded the Medi-Cal system.

“As a legislator, Lockyer ended the days when consumers had to wait forever for the repairman to show up at the house. He made jury service more convenient and the courts more efficient. And he was Senate leader the last time the State had a real balanced budget.”

Dresslar, 57, serves as Communications Director for the State Treasurer’s Office (STO). He is taking a leave of absence to work for the Lockyer 2010 campaign. The leave started Sept. 1 and will extend through the November election.

Prior to coming to the STO, Dresslar from 2002-06 served as a spokesman for Lockyer at the Attorney General’s Office. Dresslar worked for the Legislature from 2000 to 2002, performing government oversight duties for the Assembly Speaker and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. From 1987 to fall 2000, he covered State government as a Capitol bureau reporter for the Daily Journal.

Dresslar joins veteran campaign strategist Bill Carrick, who heads the Lockyer campaign team.
